About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to design, build, and operate reliable, scalable data platforms that transforms raw data into trusted, business-ready insights.
This is a hands-on engineering role responsible for delivering modern data solutions using the Microsoft data ecosystem, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Fabric, scalable data pipelines, and analytics-ready data models. You will work closely with all members of the Software & Data team, as well as business stakeholders to ensure data is accessible, secure, well-structured, and aligned to business needs.
What you'll be doing
* Design, build, and maintain end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines using a medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold), retrieving data from a variety of source systems, including APIs.
* Ensure data quality, integrity, and reliability across the platform through validation, monitoring, and testing.
* Design and maintain semantic data models optimized for analytics and reporting. Collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to ensure semantic layers reflect business definitions and enable self-service analytics.
* Apply software engineering principles to data solutions, including modular design, version control, testing, and documentation.
* Have input and assist in the implementation of data platform standards covering security, access control, lineage, and auditability.
* Support monitoring and alerting of data pipelines and platform health, identify issues proactively, and drive continuous improvement.
* Support incident resolution, root cause analysis, and operational maturity of the data platform.
* Assist in the translation of business requirements into robust data designs supported with comprehensive documentation.
* Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What you'll bring
Essential
* Proven experience as a Data Engineer delivering production data pipelines and platforms.
* Strong experience across the Microsoft data stack, including Azure and Microsoft Fabric and/or Databricks.
* Solid understanding of data architecture patterns, including medallion/Lakehouse architectures.
* Strong SQL skills and experience with data transformation and modelling.
* Experience integrating data from a variety of sources including APIs.
* Knowledge of Python, Spark, or similar data engineering languages and frameworks.
* Familiarity with software engineering best practices and source control (git).
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Desirable
* Experience with Power BI and/or wider Power Platform ecosystem.
* Exposure to data governance concepts such as lineage, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
* Familiarity with DevOps practices, including CI/CD, and automated deployments.
* Experience working in Agile delivery environments (SCRUM / Kanban).
