As we expand our branch network and establish full-scale roll-forming operations, we are looking for a practical, hands-on Production Engineer / Design Engineer to lead and optimise our manufacturing processes.
About us:
Metfold Sheetmetal is a rapidly growing sheet metal roofing supplier. We specialized in Colobond Roofing products and rainwater goods. For all your long-length custom Colorbond roof flashings, Rainheads, and Sumps. We offer custom and heavy-gauge fabrication of sheet metal, including galvanized and aluminum, making us a one-stop shop.
The Role
This role provides engineering leadership across roll-forming and sheet-metal production. You will be responsible for planning, commissioning, and improving production lines while working closely with operations, maintenance, suppliers, and design teams.
This is a hands-on, factory-based role, suited to someone who enjoys solving real production problems and driving efficiency on the floor.
Key Responsibilities
Roll-Forming Line Setup & Commissioning
* Plan, design, install, and commission roll-forming equipment for metal roofing products
* Ensure new lines meet capacity, quality, and performance targets
* Work with equipment suppliers and internal teams during implementation
Process Optimisation & Troubleshooting
* Provide engineering support on the production floor
* Launch new products and resolve manufacturing issues
* Identify bottlenecks, reduce changeover times, and improve process stability
Tooling & Equipment
* Specify, procure, and manage roll-forming tooling
* Investigate tooling defects, wear, and downtime issues
* Liaise with equipment and material suppliers
Continuous Improvement
* Drive cost reduction and efficiency improvements
* Apply Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma principles
* Monitor KPIs and support data-driven decision-making
Quality, Safety & Compliance
* Support quality assurance and preventive maintenance systems
* Ensure compliance with Australian standards and WHS requirements
* Promote a strong safety culture
Documentation & Systems
* Develop BOMs, routings, and SOPs
* Review drawings using SolidWorks / AutoCAD
* Maintain accurate ERP data for materials and costings
Training & Collaboration
* Train and support production and maintenance teams
* Provide design-for-manufacture input
* Work closely with production, procurement, and quality teams across sites
About You
* Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience)
* Proven experience in roll-forming, sheet-metal, or metal roofing manufacturing
* Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD)
* Understanding of Lean / Six Sigma principles
* Knowledge of Australian manufacturing and safety standards
* Practical, problem-solving mindset
* Willingness to travel between branches when required
