Senior Manager – Tax Controversy

As a Senior Manager in our Tax Controversy Practice, you will advise clients on a broad range of tax matters with a focus on the technical and tactical management of revenue authority engagement and dispute prevention and resolution. Location: Hybrid position based in Naarm – Melbourne or Warrang – Sydney. The role may be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours.
Your Key Responsibilities
* Advise a diverse range of clients, including ASX listed, multinational organisations and high-net-worth individuals, on their interactions with the ATO and state revenue authorities.
* Drive the management of ATO reviews and audits.
* Research and form views on a broad range of tax technical and tax administration matters.
* Manage dispute resolution processes – both formal litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
* Build and maintain client relationships.
* Draft documents and correspondence, including objections, private binding ruling requests, responses to position papers, requests for amended assessments and submissions in relation to penalties and interest.
* Mentor junior team members.
* Collaborate with partners and staff across different geographies and teams to maintain connectivity and visibility.
Skills And Attributes For Success
* Law degree and admission to practice law in Australia with 6+ years PQE.
* Strong tax technical and legal research skills.
* Capability to rapidly grasp and apply new technical issues.
* Ability to write articulately and persuasively.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work with a range of different clients and internal stakeholders on multiple deadlines.
Additional Desired Experience (Optional)
* Experience in tax advisory or tax controversy in a Big 4 firm, law firm or similar environment.
* Problem solving abilities and a focus on solutions.
* Willingness to learn and become involved in a range of different types of work.
