Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Education Focused) – full time and part time continuing (tenure-track) positions at The University of Sydney.
Education-focused roles within the Faculty of Science, with opportunities for education-focused grants and a cohort for professional development.
The University is implementing education-focused academic roles to uplift teaching capability and student experience, with most effort dedicated to teaching and teaching-related activities, plus research and governance contributions.
Responsibilities
- undertake a leadership role in educational innovation, curriculum design and review, contributing to outstanding educational delivery and outcomes
- design and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University’s expectations and standards for education
- delivering outstanding teaching and learning outcomes for students
- develop teaching and unit materials, working with more senior academics within the University
- maintain relevant Work, Health and Safety requirements and management including laboratory and/or field work
- through research and scholarly creative work, contribute to knowledge within your discipline or area of expertise, particularly as it relates to teaching and learning in your discipline
- develop and refine your education research skills, particularly as they relate to evaluating and improving teaching and learning in your discipline
- maintain high quality, standards and excellence in your educational activities and output
- contribute to the governance, leadership, and engagement work in your school
Responsibilities – teaching and coordination
- support, coordinate, and teach undergraduate and postgraduate coursework Units of Study; laboratory tutorials, studio classes and workshop management may be included
- assist and guide academic coordinators of other units within the discipline
About you / What we are looking for
We are seeking Education Focused Academics (Sydney Horizon Educators) with a demonstrated track record in teaching excellence, curriculum design, and education-related research.
Candidates should be committed to improving student experiences and capable of leading educational initiatives within their discipline.
- a PhD or near-completion in a relevant field
- experience in assessment, feedback and learning by design
- experience in outstanding educational design, delivery, evaluation and outcomes
- high-quality research outputs in the discipline or education-related topics
- developing network of academic, industry or professional partners
- experience supervising or mentoring others and coordinating team activities
- commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence
- ability to teach at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels across lecture, tutorial and practical settings
- experience designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
- strong teaching, learning and assessment practices in a tertiary environment, evidenced by feedback
- capacity to engage students and foster inclusive learning
- excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills; ability to work with colleagues and foster equity, diversity and inclusion
- high-level written and verbal communication skills
Senior Lecturer requirements (in addition to the above): demonstrated leadership in education-related issues in higher education, experience as a unit/course/program coordinator or director, and a developing record of scholarship of teaching and learning research, plus capability in leadership, governance and engagement.
Associate Professor requirements (in addition to the above): ability to attract competitive funding, leadership of curriculum development, sustained excellence in teaching and learning design, extensive research and scholarship in teaching and learning, extensive supervision and mentoring experience, and a broad network of industry and professional relationships to enhance education in the discipline.
