EVT is a leading entertainment and hospitality company offering a range of services across 140 entertainment experiences, 150 restaurants and bars, and 80+ hotels. We are looking for a Head of People & Culture Operations & Payroll to oversee payroll, people systems, and core people processes across Australia and New Zealand, lead a team of payroll professionals, and drive system governance and continuous improvement.
Payroll Officer Responsibilities
* Coordinate and oversee end‑to‑end payroll processing for all employees in Australia and New Zealand.
* Ensure accurate calculation of wages, salaries, bonuses, and deductions.
* Review and approve payroll transactions, including timesheets, leaves, and adjustments.
* Resolve payroll discrepancies and issues promptly and accurately.
* Stay updated on relevant legislation, regulations, and tax laws related to payroll processing in Australia and New Zealand.
* Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including taxation, superannuation, and award rates.
* Liaise with regulatory bodies and auditors as necessary to ensure compliance and resolve any issues.
* Lead and develop a team of payroll professionals, including team leaders responsible for Australia and New Zealand.
* Provide training, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members to ensure continuous improvement.
* Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional growth.
* Identify opportunities to streamline and improve payroll processes, systems, and procedures.
* Implement best practices and automation tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy in payroll processing.
* Work closely with cross‑functional teams, such as HR and Finance, to integrate payroll systems and data effectively.
* Generate and analyze payroll reports to track key metrics, trends, and compliance indicators.
* Prepare and distribute management reports, including payroll costs and analytics.
* Provide insights and recommendations based on payroll data analysis to support strategic decision‑making.
* Manage relationships with payroll service providers, ensuring service level agreements are met.
* Monitor vendor performance and address any issues or concerns in a timely manner.
Head of People & Culture Operations & Payroll Responsibilities
* Accountable for the integrity, accuracy, and performance of payroll and people operations across all employing entities.
* Act as the enterprise owner of payroll risk, controls, and compliance obligations.
* Maintain clear governance frameworks, decision rights, and escalation pathways, regardless of delivery model.
* Serve as the senior escalation point for material payroll incidents, audit findings, and compliance issues.
* Ensure payroll and people operations business continuity across all entities and jurisdictions.
* Define, govern, and test offline and contingency payroll processes to be executed if systems, vendors, or data are unavailable.
* Oversee regular testing and rehearsal of contingency processes to ensure pay accuracy, timeliness, and compliance are maintained during disruption.
* Design and govern EVT's payroll operating model, including onshore and offshore components.
* Define and maintain retained capability covering payroll risk, compliance, legislative interpretation, system governance, and assurance.
* Lead recommendations and business cases related to team talent sourcing, structure, ways of working, and efficiency.
* Own Dayforce and associated people systems.
* Accountable for system integrity, configuration standards, and disciplined change control.
* Own prioritisation of enhancements and ensure system changes align with business outcomes, risk management, and user experience.
* Ensure people systems support scale and complexity without fragmentation.
* Establish transparent, end‑to‑end people processes with defined ownership and controls, designed to be intuitive and reliable for employees and leaders.
* Reduce manual intervention, rework, and exceptions, improving reliability, turnaround times, and confidence in people processes.
* Embed standardisation, automation, and measurement to deliver high‑quality experiences by design.
* Ensure systems and processes provide leaders with clarity, consistency, and reliable information, supporting effective decision‑making.
* Design processes that minimise reliance on informal knowledge and local interpretation, embedding clarity and consistency.
* Own enterprise‑level governance of payroll and HRIS vendors, setting performance expectations and monitoring outcomes.
* Manage the escalation of systemic issues, ensuring external providers operate within EVT's governance, risk, and compliance frameworks.
* Lead and develop payroll and people systems capability across onshore and offshore teams.
* Set clear expectations for accountability, quality, and delivery.
* Build depth and resilience in roles critical to payroll accuracy, system integrity, and continuity.
* Intervene where capability gaps create operational risk or undermine system discipline.
* Lead people operations transformation across systems, processes, and operating models.
* Drive change through execution and adoption, not parallel processes or workarounds.
* Embed improvements into business‑as‑usual governance, measures, and operating rhythms.
