About the role:
The Criminal Proceeds Squad is part of the Economic Crime Division, Crime Command and undertakes investigations in relation to the restraint of proceeds of crime. They operate under the Asset Confiscation Scheme with partners, the Office or Public Prosecutions and Asset Confiscation Operations (DJCS).
The Criminal Proceeds Squad consists of both sworn and VPS members.
The Office conducts unexplained wealth investigations related to serious and profit motivated organised crime, taking restraint action under the Confiscation Act 1997. The office also investigates money laundering and serious financial crimes that affect Victoria, linked to drug offences, outlaw motorcycle gangs, fraud and cybercrimes.
The Criminal Proceeds Squad legal team consists of one VPSG-6 Senior Lawyer, one VPSG-5 Lawyer and two VPSG-4 Lawyers.
This position is a fixed 2-year term position, additional to the current legal team, to focus solely on the identification and application of the Confiscation Act 1997 in respect of the illicit tobacco market within Victoria.

Your duties will include:
* Preparation and appearance work in the Magistrates' Court jurisdiction specialising in Confiscation Act 1997
* Preparation and appearance work in the County Court jurisdiction specialising in Confiscation Act 1997
* Provision of legal advice in areas of skill and knowledge, including the drafting of court submissions.
* Establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with all legal representatives and court staff.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
* Be admitted to practice as an Australian Lawyer.
* Have an Australian Practising Certificate or be immediately eligible to apply for one.
* Have the ability to work in a team and in a developing and emerging work environment.
* Have a high level of resilience and emotional intelligence.
* Have sound knowledge and understanding of the Victorian criminal justice system and a commitment to keeping abreast of changing trends, policies and legislation.
* Have some general knowledge of asset confiscation and restraint processes.
Requirements and relevant information:
* One (1) x fixed term (2 years) position available.
* This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
* The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
* The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
