The HIV/AIDS Legal Centre (HALC) is currently looking for two volunteer PLT Students to join our team for a January **** start .
About the organisation: HALC is a community legal centre that provides free legal services to people affected by, and those most at risk of, HIV and/or Hepatitis on related legal matters.
We deal with a range of HIV and/or hepatitis related legal issues including - Immigration Criminal Employment Discrimination Tenancy Breach of privacy Public health Insurance Wills Estates Centrelink Position Description: Volunteers perform a variety of day-to-day tasks including - drafting of legal advice, submissions, applications to courts tribunals and other legal correspondence maintaining accurate files and legal records completing new client intakes casework tasks and client interviews under directions from Solicitors; general administrative work e.g. answering phones, scheduling appointments researching legal and administrative laws and procedures; Essential criteria: undertaking or having recently undertaken the Graduate Diploma in Legal Professional Practice.
sensitivity to people affected by HIV and/or hepatitis sensitivity towards clients from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, the LGBTI community, sex workers, people who use drugs and persons with disabilities ability to work independently, under pressure and to proactively work on files (all work is supervised and monitored by Solicitors) good communication skills and phone manner basic computer skills ability to work in a small team/open office environment We request volunteers completing PLT to commit to a minimum of 3 days a week, ideally 4 days a week, over Tuesday-Friday 10am-6pm.
We do not need students on Mondays.
Our office is located in Surry Hills, NSW.
We do not have resources for volunteers to work remotely.
