The Kennel Assistant Role The Kennel Assistant is responsible for providing a clean, efficient, and healthy environment for the animals being treated or boarded at the hospital. A day in the life of a Kennel Assistant includes: Maintaining the cleanliness of the hospital, including kennel area, runs, and outside grounds. Feeding hospitalized animals and boarders. Monitoring and recording important information about the animals' conditions, behavior, and habits (elimination, eating, etc.). Walking animals three times a day. Notifying the Doctor or a Veterinary Assistant of unusual medical or behavioral problems. Maintaining laundry throughout the day and keeping the laundry area neat. Monitoring and maintaining the kennel inventory, including food, cleaning supplies, and laundry supplies. Performing other duties as assigned to assist the Doctor, Receptionist, and Veterinarian Technicians/Assistants in the smooth operation of the clinic, client care, and service. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED preferred. Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays. Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong communication skills, good judgment, and the ability to manage stressful situations. Physical and mental capacity to perform in a fast-paced environment. Ability to lift 50+ lbs. Previous experience as a kennel technician is preferred. Benefits and Compensation Pay range of $13.00-$14.00/hour based on experience. Discounted veterinary care.
