Lead Grader Operator
City of Karratha is seeking a skilled, confident and safety-focused Lead Grader Operator to join our Construction & Maintenance team.
This role is ideal for an experienced operator who takes pride in accuracy, enjoys variety in their day, and is keen to support and guide others in the field.
Base pay range
A$125,******/yr - A$125,******/yr
About the role
As a Lead Grader Operator, you'll play a key part in delivering high-quality civil works across the district.
Working closely with the Leading Hand Construction, you'll operate graders and other plant to design levels and tolerances, support the City's construction program, and ensure our roads and drainage assets are maintained to a high standard.
You'll also step into leading roles when required and assist with the training of others in specialised plant operations such as bitumen repair and kerbing equipment.
What you'll do:
Operate graders to a high level of accuracy for road construction, verge grading, drainage maintenance and pavement works
Interpret and work to construction plans, design levels, survey tolerances and set-outs
Undertake construction and maintenance of unsealed roads, shoulders, culverts and other City infrastructure
Operate a range of plant including excavators, loaders and skid steers
Lead small teams on construction or maintenance tasks when required
Perform daily plant inspections, basic maintenance and cleaning, and report repairs to the Plant Mechanic
Maintain a strong commitment to safe work practices, PPE use and hazard reporting
Provide relief coverage for the Leading Hand Construction / Maintenance Grader Operator and other key plant operators
What you'll bring:
Certificate of Competency for Grader, Excavator, Skid Steer and Loader
Proven experience in road construction and high-accuracy machine operations
Ability to understand civil plans, set-outs and material specifications
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work through complex operational challenges
Sound communication skills and the confidence to work with staff, contractors and the public
Previous experience leading or mentoring small work teams (desirable)
Manual HR driver's licence and a Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain)
Basic Traffic Management certificate and good local area knowledge (desirable)Physical capability to carry out manual tasks and use hand tools when required
