About BHP
At BHP we support our people to grow, learn, develop their skills and reach their potential. With a global portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with extraordinary career opportunities. Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.
Come and be a part of this success.
About the Role
Prominent Hill is a copper–gold operation supporting Australia's clean energy transition. As demand for copper in renewable energy infrastructure and electric vehicles continues to grow, your work will contribute directly to this important supply chain.
Reporting to the Senior Production Engineer, you will be a key member of the production team, owning the detail in day-to-day operations while also stepping back to look for smarter, more sustainable ways of working. You will use data analysis and in-field observations to spot issues early, test ideas, and turn good concepts into practical plans.
You will join a collaborative, supportive team where your judgement and ideas are taken seriously. Safety is how we look after each other every day, not just something we talk about. In practice, that means you will be a trusted technical adviser for the production team, regularly working with frontline crews and planners to check the practicality of designs, refine schedules, and keep production moving safely and efficiently.
We work closely with Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara Traditional Owners, and this partnership is an integral part of our everyday operations.
Roster:
8 days on; 6 days off
Direct flights are offered from Adelaide (just over an hour) and Port Augusta (around 30 minutes).
Our 8 days on, 6 days off roster gives you a steady rhythm: focused time on site followed by extended time off, so you can plan life outside work.
Once you have spent your first few months on site building relationships and competence, there is scope for hybrid work flexibility
, helping you balance on-site time with working from your home base.

All meals included – breakfast, lunch and dinner
State-of-the-art gym with personal training and group fitness classes
Sports facilities, including tennis courts, cricket nets and a soccer pitch
Walking track, music room and quiet room
Reliable Wi-Fi to stay connected with family
In this role you will:
Design and review drilling, blasting and production plans working closely with experienced colleagues
Liaise with stakeholders to ensure drill and blast designs meet site requirements
Spend regular time in the field (typically 3–4 underground visits per on-site swing) to ensure drill and blast activities are completed safely and efficiently
Undertake QA/QC monitoring for production activities
Complete stope reconciliations and abandonments on completion
Manage and monitor the iKon electronic blasting system with comprehensive training and mentorship
Review and approve survey memos
Monitor and maintain quality data on underground performance
Lead projects that improve processes and practices - your ideas and observations will be encouraged and acted on
Assist other Mining Engineering functions as required
Assist with incident investigations and implement actions that support continuous improvement of the site's safety performance
Conduct task observations and Critical Control Verifications (CCV) as required
Complete hazard identification, rectification and reporting in line with site requirements
About You
You are likely to be someone who has built a solid foundation in underground hard rock mining and is now looking for a role where you can take on more ownership, broaden your skills and have real input into how things are done.
Tertiary qualifications in Mining or Civil Engineering (other disciplines considered)
Experience working in an underground, hard rock, metalliferous mine
Underground practical experience completed
Commitment to working safely in a team environment and actively promoting safe production
Strong ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships
Valid driver's licence
