We have an exciting opportunity for a
permanent full-time Principal Engineer Design Management
to join the
Road Infrastructure Delivery Branch
within the Council.
This position is responsible for the effective leadership and management of a team of Civil Engineering Designers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality design solutions for capital works projects, particularly in road, drainage, and related infrastructure. The role includes direct supervision of up to nine staff members, including Senior and Civil Engineering Designers, and involves mentoring junior team members as needed. The position plays a key role in aligning team outputs with strategic goals, fostering professional development, and maintaining high standards of technical and design excellence.
Position responsibilities include:
* Design Management
* Lead and manage civil engineering design teams.
* Scope, certify, and oversee designs for roads, drainage, and infrastructure projects.
* Commission and manage external consultants for capital works.
* Manage CAD systems and land/easement acquisition.
* Leadership & Teamwork
* Engage stakeholders early to ensure alignment and support.
* Support and mentor the design team to foster growth.
* Identify training needs and support team development.
* Provide technical input and leadership across projects.
* Develop and update design standards and policies.

* Proven ability to lead technical teams and motivate staff.
* Highly developed communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
* Extensive experience in civil engineering design and drafting.
* Proficiency in: AutoCAD, PC Drain, 12D Road Design Software, MS Project
* Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering with extensive experience
* Eligibility or registration as a Professional Engineer (RPEQ) under the Queensland Professional Engineers Act.
* Project Management qualifications and experience managing complex design programs.
* Ability to pass all pre-employment and background checks as required.
