Your role within Social and Affordable Housing Growth will support the department to deliver well-designed, safe and secure social housing to assist Queenslanders who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The work you will do helps someone every day, and that means the world to us.
Through partnerships, Social and Affordable Housing Growth provides and influences the provision of safe, secure, affordable and appropriate housing to the people of Queensland, and the building of vibrant and connected precincts and communities in which they live.
The Principal Planning Officer is responsible for providing expert advice to senior management on town planning matters for the development of the department's property portfolio and managing the Planning Regulation 2017 public housing exemption process.
The position works with State Government and Local Government stakeholders on proposed departmental development and matters concerning program development and portfolio interests.
What You Will Be Doing
* Supervise a team that is responsible for a variety of town planning activities.
* Provide expert town planning advice on property development and design matters associated with the department's social housing property portfolio.
* Manage the Planning Regulation 2017 Public Housing exemption process for social housing projects by overseeing and undertaking town planning assessments, Director-General Briefing Notes and other associated administrative requirements.
* Manage the department's processes and procedures for providing advice on all social housing projects for compliance with the Planning Act 2016 and other relevant legislation.
* Oversee and prepare documentation to local governments about proposed housing developments.
* Oversee and participate in Feasibility and Design Review meetings at a project level and provide town planning input.
* Undertake capital works program reporting, focussing on initial feasibility through to Director-General decisions and coordinate with other internal stakeholders to achieve program targets.
* Provide advice on contentious planning matters and/or changes to legislation which have significant effect on the development or use of the department's social housing portfolio.
* Manage and undertake stakeholder engagement and consultation with state agencies, local governments and other areas of the department to promote the department's portfolio interests and facilitate strong partnerships.
* Where required, undertake strategic planning related projects to support property portfolio management outcomes.
* Prepare high level correspondence, reports, and position papers.
