Where you'll be working
Join Paediatrics at Manning Base Hospital with a Level 3 Special Care Unit (SCU) (3 beds for 34‐week gestation neonates, back‐transfers from JHCH NICU at 32 weeks, respiratory/CPAP support, hypoglycaemia, hyperbilirubin, growth/development) and Level 4 Paediatric Unit (8 beds for medical, surgical, orthopaedic, mental health, oncology patients aged 0‐16 years). Both units network closely with John Hunter Children's Hospital (JHCH) tertiary services. Together, this creates a dynamic environment for specialised paediatric and neonatal care with strong regional support.
About the role
As Clinical Nurse Educator – Paediatrics & Special Care Nursery, you'll drive nursing workforce development across both units, ensuring clinical excellence, NSW Health compliance and safe, child/family‐centred care in a Level 4 paediatric/Level 3 SCU environment. You'll provide clinical coaching, in‐service education, competency assessments (IV therapy, neonatal resuscitation, paediatric OBS charts), incident reviews, training gap analysis, documentation, simulation coordination and alignment with Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) operational priorities while leading projects like paediatric deterioration recognition, medication safety, new equipment training, sepsis pathways and annual resuscitation programs.
Reporting to nursing leadership with no direct reports but professional oversight of new graduates, students and skill‐development staff, you'll role‐model excellence, mentor career growth, build relationships with medical/allied health/maternity teams, and represent services at paediatric networks and committees. These responsibilities position you as a key leader building capability and quality across Paediatric/SCU services.
About you
You're an experienced Paediatric/SCU clinical leader with strong teaching skills, passionate about developing nursing competence and delivering family‐centred care. You communicate effectively, lead confidently and thrive coordinating education in complex clinical environments.
