The position if a Term Time, Permanent role commencing 14 July 2025completing27.5 hours per week.The School Officer – Assisting Student Learning (ASL) works under the direction and supervision of a teacher to provide learning and classroom support to all students including students who have identified additional needs to access and participate in schooling.Townsville Catholic Education has standards of conduct for workers to maintain a safe and healthy environment for children. Our commitment to these standards requires that we conduct working with children checks and background referencing for all persons who will engage in direct and regular involvement with children and young people and/or adults-at-risk. The organisation is fully committed to child safety and has a zero tolerance to abuse of children or adults-at-risk.Typical DutiesThe typical duties of the role may include:a. Providing support to individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate in learning and school activitiesb. Assisting students (either individually or in groups) with specific learning needs including scribing, reading, which may include providing feedback and observations to the classroom teacher(s)c. Assisting in the support of student engagement by reinforcing appropriate student behaviourd. Providing practical assistance to students in using classroom technologye. Performing administrative tasks of record maintenance, producing resources (eg. Printing, laminating etc) and other classroom administrative supportf. Assisting in the maintenance of a clean and tidy classroom environment including storage facilities and assisting in setting up appropriate classroom/learning spaceg. Providing routine support to students in relation to their physical needs (eg. mobility support) and personal care (eg. toileting, feeding)Mandatory CriteriaCurrent Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland GovernmentCurrent Drivers LicenceAbility to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.No formal qualification is required; however, a Cert III in School Based Education Support or equivalent.Some employees may be subject to pre-employment medical assessments during the selection process.
