About the Role
Cardijn College is seeking a committed and skilled Trades Assistant to support practical trade training programs and assist with the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of campus facilities.
Reporting to the RTO Manager, and ultimately the Principal, the Trades Assistant plays a key support role in preparing materials and learning spaces, maintaining workshops and equipment, and supporting grounds, buildings and facilities to ensure safe, functional and well‐organised environments for students and staff.
The role involves regular collaboration with trade trainers, staff, students and external contractors and primarily supports the vocational learning environment at the Marcellin Campus, while contributing more broadly to College operations as required.
Key Areas of Work
The Trades Assistant will undertake duties including, but not limited to:
* Supporting the preparation and pack‐down of practical trade activities, including setting out materials, tools and equipment
* Cutting, separating and preparing materials for practical lessons under direction
* Maintaining clean, safe and orderly workshops, work benches, floors and storage areas
* Monitoring, managing and maintaining inventories of materials and supplies across trade areas
* Ordering supplies and checking deliveries against invoices
* Ensuring the safe storage of materials and equipment
* Supporting general repairs and maintenance to buildings, fittings, fixtures and grounds
* Assisting with building and campus projects, including reading and interpreting plans or drawings
* Maintaining tools and equipment and arranging repairs or replacement as authorised
* Working collaboratively with contractors and specialists to support maintenance and project activities
* Participating in workplace inspections, identifying hazards and contributing to corrective actions
* Responding to urgent or critical maintenance issues, including required out‐of‐hours support
* Maintaining documentation for WHS, administrative and financial purposes
* Actively engaging in school activities, training and performance review processes
Person Specification
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
* A commitment to upholding and actively contributing to the Catholic ethos of the College
* Demonstrated technical competence and experience in building, trade, grounds or maintenance work
* Gardening and turf maintenance skills and experience
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise and work with a level of autonomy
* Sound computing skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office and maintain records
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills when working with students, staff and contractors
* A proactive and practical approach to workplace health and safety
* Flexibility to be contactable and available out of hours when required.
* Certificate IV accredited trade qualification (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, electrical, horticulture or similar)
* White Card and relevant WHS training (manual handling, hazard awareness, working at heights)
* First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain)
* Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and clearance to work in Catholic Education South Australia
* Certification in Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect in Education and Care Settings
* Willingness to comply with the CESA Code of Conduct and SA Work Health & Safety legislation
