Central Gippsland Health Service (CGHS) – Permanent | Full-Time or Fractional Considered. Appointment Level: Staff Specialist (commensurate with years of experience). CGHS is the major provider of acute health, community health, and residential aged care services across Wellington Shire, serving a local population of approximately 42,000, with specialist services extending across East Gippsland.

Role Summary
The Consultant Geriatrician will provide senior specialist medical leadership within General Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, working collaboratively with other physicians and the Critical Care Unit. Care is delivered within a coordinated, patient‐centred model, ensuring seamless integration across hospital, community, and aged care services.
Clinical Responsibilities
* Provide specialist‐level care as a General Physician and Geriatrician, aligned with CGHS scope of practice and clinical capability.
* Deliver comprehensive management of:
o Acute medical presentations
o Exacerbations of chronic disease
o Complex patients with multiple comorbidities
o Provide longitudinal care for patients with chronic and geriatric conditions.
* Arrange ongoing medical management in collaboration with tertiary referral centres when required.
* Participate in the on‐call Physician roster, including after‐hours support to:
o Emergency Department
o Critical Care Unit
o Inpatient wards
Outpatient and Community‐based Consulting Services
* Rapid Access Medical Clinic
* Community Geriatric Support Service
* General Medical Clinics
* Geriatric Clinics
* Rehabilitation in the Home
* Subacute care in community hospitals
* Medical Discharge Clinics
* Hospital in the Home services
* Provide clinical and professional leadership within the medical division.
* Work collaboratively with Nurse Unit Managers and multidisciplinary teams.
* Offer consultative support to other specialties managing complex medical patients.
Leadership and Teaching
* Advise Executive leadership on:
o Service planning and development
o Equipment and resource requirements
* Supervise and train:
o Interns
o Registrars
o Junior Medical Officers
o Medical students
o Support procedural supervision where appropriate.
* Participate in and contribute to:
o Grand Rounds
o Teaching sessions
o Clinical presentations
o Continuing medical education programs
* Actively engage in:
o Clinical audit
o Morbidity and mortality reviews
o Case reviews
o Journal clubs
o Accreditation and quality improvement activities
