Position overview

The ANU College of Law, Governance and Public Policy (CLGP) is a progressive and newly established College that brings together four world-leading academic schools dedicated to shaping the future of law, governance, regulation, policy and population health. The Crawford School of Public Policy is one of four Schools within CLGP and one of the world's leading public policy schools. The Crawford School is the University's focal point for contributing to public policy research, education and policy impact. Its graduate programs have trained many of the region's leaders, and its research has impacted on policy making. Public policy scholarship at Crawford School is characterised by high quality, policy-relevant research across a range of disciplines.

The Resources, Environment and Development (READ) Department in the Crawford School is home to world-class faculty, with expertise in political ecology, human geography, anthropology and economics. READ's research and teaching address the biggest challenges of our time, from climate change and environmental degradation to human well-being on a changing planet. Two flagship Master's degree programs are convened by READ: the Master of Environmental Management & Development, and the Master of Climate Change.

We expect the candidate to be able to begin in semester 1, 2026.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to convene Masters-degree courses through online and in person teaching (40%), to conduct excellent research in their field of study (40%), and to serve their discipline and the university through collegial and leadership roles (20%). This position will report to the Head of the Resources, Environment and Development Department, in a collegial atmosphere, in which collaborative research and teaching are encouraged.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have a PhD in a discipline that explores environmental and societal issues in a critical way, for example geography, public policy, anthropology, political science, sociology, economics or other cognate field of study. The candidate will have a strong, emerging publication record, and future research plans that align with the Resources, Environment and Development Department's remit. Teaching and supervisory experience are strongly preferred for Level B applicants, and essential for Level C applicants.
