Building the Foundations for What Comes Next
BHAC is embarking on the next chapter of its organisational journey, guided by a new three-year strategic plan and a strong commitment to safe, sustainable service delivery across homelands.
This newly created leadership role has been established to strengthen the corporate foundations that support the organisation, bringing clarity, consistency, and capability across governance, systems, and workforce practices. By building a strong corporate backbone, this role enables leaders and teams to focus on delivering meaningful outcomes for the community.
Designed with the organisation’s current stage in mind, the role initially focuses on change leadership and foundation-setting, before shifting toward embedding and maturing systems over time. BHAC is open to appointing someone who can lead across both phases, and is also open to a candidate whose strengths align with the establishment and transition phase.
The Leadership Opportunity
BHAC are now seeking a General Manager - Corporate Services, based in Maningrida, NT. This is a newly created opportunity, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will develop, stabilise, and strengthen BHAC’s corporate backbone to support safe, compliant, and sustainable service delivery across the organisation.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Leading Corporate Services in alignment with BHAC’s values, cultural context, and commitment to Aboriginal leadership and self-determination
* Strengthening governance, compliance, audit readiness, and internal controls
* Establishing and embedding fit-for-purpose risk management and quality systems
* Strengthening WHS systems and promoting a culture of safety and accountability
* Improving ICT systems, data integrity, and information management to support sound decision-making
* Enhancing corporate processes to reduce duplication, rework, and operational friction
* Strengthening people and workforce systems, including performance management, supervision, and leadership capability
* Overseeing procurement systems to ensure transparency, compliance, and value-for-money
* Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and corporate contributions to financial governance
* Translating organisational strategy into clear Corporate Services priorities and workplans
* Providing high-quality advice, analysis, and reporting to the CEO, Board, and Executive
The Leader We’re Seeking
To be successful in this role, you will bring senior leadership experience across corporate or enabling functions, with the ability to strengthen governance, manage risk, and build practical systems that support service delivery.
Our ideal candidate could come from a range of professional backgrounds, including corporate services, operations, finance, governance, or general management. Formal qualifications in Business, Management, or a related field are welcomed; however, demonstrated capability, sound judgement, and experience delivering system and process improvement are more important.
Most importantly, you will have demonstrated experience leading diverse teams and working with Boards, CEOs, or executive stakeholders. Experience in regional or remote environments is beneficial; however, candidates who can demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and cultural awareness in complex settings are encouraged to apply.
The following background and experience will be highly regarded:
* Experience working in Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) or culturally complex environments
* Experience in ORIC-regulated, grant-funded, or highly regulated settings
* Strong understanding of WHS, quality systems, and audit processes
* Multi-disciplinary capability across governance, workforce systems, digital uplift, procurement, and risk
Success in this role looks like a practical and approachable leader - someone who listens first, respects context, and applies best-practice thinking in a way that is thoughtful, inclusive, and fit for purpose. You bring clarity and consistency, support others to do their best work, and help the organisation move forward with confidence.
