Job Description

Are you a skilled and passionate mechanic with a drive to ensure vehicles and equipment are in top working condition? Do you want to play an integral role in keeping our community moving, with reliable Council vehicles and equipment?

We're looking for qualified mechanics to join our team — people who know their way around engines and enjoy a bit of variety in their day.

You'll be working on everything from utes and tractors to graders, garbage trucks and beyond – if it's got wheels (or tracks), you'll probably get to work on it. Some days you'll be in the workshop, other days you'll be out on the road helping with breakdowns or on‐site servicing. Every day you will help to keep things ticking over safely and smoothly.

Key responsibilities include:

* Provide essential repairs, maintenance and servicing for a wide range of Council vehicles and equipment.
* Schedule and perform regular servicing, manage service records and provide on‐the‐road support when needed.
* Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic issues.
* Advise on plant specifications and liaise with external contractors and sales teams.
* Work independently and as part of a team to ensure fleet operates efficiently, safely and cost‐effectively.

Selection Criteria

* Trade qualification as a Motor Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or equivalent.
* Demonstrated experience in the service, repair, and maintenance of both light and heavy vehicles, plant and equipment.
* Current NSW Motor Vehicle Driver Licence (minimum MR class desirable).
* Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, safe workshop practices, and risk management.
* Ability to diagnose mechanical faults and carry out effective repairs in a timely manner.
* Record‐keeping and basic computer literacy skills to update service records.
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

It would be a big plus if you have current Authorised Inspection Station (AIS) Examiner's licence, experience in local government or similar operational environment, forklift licence, plant operation tickets, or other relevant qualifications and a HR or HC driver's licence. Experience working with heavy vehicles and the ability to carry out fabrication work and follow plans will also be highly regarded.

Benefits of Working for Council

* Great leave opportunities: Long service leave after 5 years, 1 RDO every 2 weeks, Paid parental and concurrent parental leave, Carer's leave, 3 weeks sick leave per year including up to 2 days health and wellbeing leave, Purchase additional leave or cash out leave, Deferred leave scheme.
* Support for training and professional development: Formal training opportunities, Access to thousands of free online training courses.
* Weekly pay cycle, Mobile phone allowance available if you bring your own device, Salary Packaging options to maximise your take‐home pay.
* Hybrid work and flexible hours by agreement and subject to role requirements.
* Wellness: Employee assistance programme with TELUS Health One, Free annual flu vaccinations and bi‐annual skin cancer checks.
* PPE provided.
