Site Maintenance Coordinator & Machine Operator
to ensure the ongoing performance, safety, and reliability of our infrastructure and systems.
The
Site Maintenance Coordinator & Machine Operator
is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of all infrastructure, plant and equipment and across our nursery site. In addition to the maintenance element, you will be responsible for loading and unloading trucks, assisting pallet, stillage and bench movement around the facility. The ideal candidate will bring a strong production nursery background with experience in automated irrigation and hands-on experience in maintaining horticultural infrastructure, plumbing, machinery, and systems.
This is a key leadership role for someone who is technically minded, solutions-oriented, and capable of managing both daily maintenance tasks and longer-term infrastructure projects while also supporting the day-to-day operations.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential (technical skills/knowledge)
Demonstrated experience in maintenance roles, preferably within a horticultural, agricultural, or industrial setting.
Experience and understanding of automated irrigation systems.
Working knowledge of plumbing, and irrigation infrastructure.
Proficient in the repair and servicing of small engines, including 2-stroke machinery.
Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach to engineering and maintenance challenges.
Understanding of WHS/OHS legislation and experience implementing safety practices in a maintenance setting.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks independently.
Preferred
Heavy or medium rigid truck licence.
Familiarity with sustainable or regenerative nursery practices.
Previous experience in a similar role within the horticulture, landscaping, or agricultural sector.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Facilities Maintenance
Maintain all nursery infrastructure, including greenhouses, shade structures, benching systems, irrigation systems, roads, drainage, and utility connections.
Plan and execute preventative maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and extend asset life.
Coordinate building repairs, small construction works and upgrades as needed.
Support daily nursery operations.
Be the main machine operator
Equipment Maintenance
Service, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical nursery equipment, including:
Green houses and growing structures.
Rolling bench systems.
2-stroke and 4-stroke engines (e.g., hedge trimmers, brush cutters, pumps, generators)
Irrigation pumps, fans, and heating systems.
Apply sound engineering principles to develop solutions to maintenance issues and suggest system improvements.
Irrigation & Utility Systems
Maintain automated irrigation; including recycled water supply, tanks, boom irrigation systems, solenoids, and filtration systems.
Monitor performance and implement repairs and calibrations to ensure acceptable water quality and efficiency.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation
Ensure all maintenance practices align with WHS/OHS legislation and nursery policies.
Conduct regular risk assessments and maintain detailed maintenance logs, inspection reports, and service records.
Maintain an up-to-date inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables.
Project & Contractor Management
Manage maintenance-related projects, including minor infrastructure builds and system upgrades.
Coordinate and supervise external contractors for specialised maintenance and compliance services.
