The Role
As an EL 1 Assistant Director, you will lead a team undertaking research and analysis services to produce industry intelligence products to Defence. You will shape research priorities, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure intelligence outputs align with Defence strategic objectives and decision making cycles. This role combines leadership, strategic thinking, and analytical judgement, and operates with a high degree of independence in a complex environment.
You will:
* Lead and manage a team of researchers and/or analysts to deliver high quality industry intelligence products.
* Provide advice to senior Defence stakeholders on industry capability, capacity, supply chains, and related risks.
* Set priorities and allocate resources to meet competing intelligence requirements.
* Oversee the quality assurance, governance and dissemination of intelligence products.
* Build and manage effective relationships with senior stakeholders across Defence and other agencies.
* Understand and apply knowledge of the intelligence process to government priorities to inform policy and decision makers.
* Drive innovation, continuous improvement and capability uplift within IIC.
* Contribute to strategic planning, workforce development and the evolution of Defence’s industry intelligence capability.

* Demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring teams in research, analysis, intelligence, or policy environments, ensuring quality outputs, and delivering to tight timeframes.
* Strong ability to synthesise complex, multi-source data into clear strategic insights.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and advisory capability at senior levels.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to ensuring methodological rigour, and evidentiary integrity.
* A track record of driving continuous improvement of analytical frameworks, tools, templates and workflows.
