Upper Murray Family Care (UMFC) is seeking a Specialist Family Counsellor (LGBTIQA+) to join our Family Therapy Team on a 12-month maximum term contract on a Part-time capacity (0.6 FTE). This role is based in Wodonga or Wangaratta.
About the Role
This unique position provides therapeutic counselling and support to LGBTIQA+ individuals and their families/support networks, with a focus on safety, connection, and resilience. You will also provide secondary consultation to other services and contribute to improving inclusive, affirming practices across the sector.

Key Responsibilities
As the Specialist Family Counsellor (LGBTIQA+), you will work collaboratively with our Family Services Team to offer whole-of-family support, using a systems-based and trauma-informed approach.
In this role will:
•Provide trauma-informed, queer-affirming counselling to LGBTIQA+ individuals and their families/support networks.
•Conduct comprehensive risk and needs assessments and develop appropriate support plans.
•Deliver both individual and group-based therapeutic interventions.
•Collaborate with the Family Services team to provide a whole-of-family approach.
•Maintain accurate client records and contribute to program targets and quality outcomes.
•Offer secondary consultation to other professionals and services in the region.
•Build partnerships and engage in community development activities that support LGBTIQA+ inclusion and empowerment.
•Participate in professional development, supervision, and continuous improvement activities.
About You
You will bring:
•Relevant qualifications in social work, psychology, counselling, family therapy, or a related field
•Experience in therapeutic interventions, including working with LGBTIQA+ communities
•A sound understanding of mental health, identity, and the impact of systemic disadvantage
•Strong communication skills and a commitment to social justice, empowerment, and inclusion
•The ability to work independently while being part of a highly supportive, values-driven team
