What's the role about?
The role focuses on providing pricing and underwriting support to drive profitable growth of the auto business in Australia and New Zealand, with support to other APAC territories as needed. The Actuarial Analyst recommends and implements techniques supporting revenue and profitability targets, demonstrating understanding of project direction, time management, and development. Participation in exam and rotational programs offers broad experience across the actuarial organization and products.
Responsibilities:
* Perform rate reviews, rate modeling, and portfolio monitoring for assigned territories/lines.
* Collaborate with local businesses to acquire and grow motor insurance business through visits, presentations, and pricing recommendations.
* Engage daily with external stakeholders such as underwriting agencies, brokers, reinsurers, and internal teams including Business Development, Risk, Claims, Finance, and Operations.
* Respond to internal, external, or ad hoc requests with guidance from management.
* Analyze, update, and summarize memorandum templates.
* Locate and reconcile data from source systems, ensuring accuracy and addressing anomalies.
* Gather information from internal departments to produce reports and analyses, develop process flows, and incorporate feedback.
* Assist with data collection and responses to inquiries from regulatory bodies, auditors, and internal teams regarding business processes and improvements.
* Identify system and data inefficiencies, providing recommendations for resolution.
* Translate financial projections into business metrics, monitoring productivity and profitability.
* Participate in cross-training and knowledge sharing within the team.
* Manage self-development and pursue actuarial exams towards professional designation.
Candidate Profile:
* Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
* 3-8 years of experience, preferably in motor insurance pricing.
* Actuarial candidate or Associate of the Australian Actuarial Institute or relevant bodies.
* Progressive responsibilities in actuarial roles for 3-6 years.
* Strong understanding of actuarial concepts, insurance products, and industry.
* Proficiency in MS Office and data platforms (SAS, SQL, R, Python, etc.).
