Last Chance Tavern located in regional South Hedland, Western Australia.
We are seeking highly motivated Cooks to join our team at Last Chance Tavern.
Minimum 40 hours a week, attractive hourly rate, free accommodation and meals provided for the right candidate with the right attitude.
Prepares, seasons and cooks dishes in a commercial kitchen according to menus, recipes and workplace specifications.
Works under limited supervision and may be responsible for a particular section of the kitchen (e.g., pizza, grill, etc).
Daily tasks and responsibilities
Ensures food quality, portion control, presentation and compliance with food safety standards.
Key responsibilities and duties
Prepare and cook a range of food items to menu and recipe specifications, including hot and cold dishes.
Prepare and chop, slice, portion and pre-cook ingredients; prepare sauces, stocks and bases.
Operate kitchen equipment (ovens, grills, fryers, slicers, food processors) safely and efficiently.
Complete meal assembly and plating to required presentation and portion standards.
Monitor and maintain food quality, taste and texture; adjust seasoning and recipes as required.
Follow food safety, hygiene and sanitation procedures (cleaning, storage, temperature control) and maintain a clean work area.
Receive and unpack deliveries; inspect and store goods according to FIFO and storage requirements.
Label, date and rotate stock; minimise waste and practise portion and cost control.
Assist with menu development input and provide feedback on ingredient availability and customer preferences.
May supervise junior kitchen staff, apprentices or kitchen hands and allocate tasks within own work area.
Report equipment faults, supply shortages and hazards to supervisor/chef.
Technical tasks and tools
Ability to prepare a broad range of dishes and follow recipes consistently.
Understanding of hygiene, allergen management and safe food handling (e.g., HACCP principles).
Multiple tasks in a busy, time-critical environment.
Attention to detail.
Coordinate with kitchen staff and front-of-house to meet service demands.
Basic knife skills and safe equipment operation.
Ability to adapt to menu changes, special requests and peak service periods.
Skills and competencies
Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent (desirable but not always mandatory).
3 years working experience can substitute the formal training.
Current certification in food safety/hygiene (as required by the state/territory) is required.
First aid training is desirable.

Wages are paid weekly.
The base annual salary is in the order of $69,****** – $80,******, depending on experience.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical, including a drug and alcohol test.
