The City of Canning is seeking a skilled professional to lead the planning and design of its roads and road reserve infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in engineering and transport planning to join our team and make a real difference in the community.
The successful candidate will provide strong leadership and manage a skilled team of engineers and technical officers. They will be responsible for developing and driving innovative planning and design solutions, ensuring sustainability and lifecycle value optimisation, as well as addressing current and future community needs.
This role requires a deep understanding of road and transport design principles, as well as significant experience in engineering and the planning, design and delivery of road and road reserve infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to inspire, mentor and drive a high-performing team.
Responsibilities
* Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical professionals.
* Provide expert technical and operational advice to senior leaders and stakeholders.
* Develop and drive innovative planning and design solutions, ensuring sustainability and lifecycle value optimisation.
* Manage the scoping, planning, design and evaluation of projects, in line with the city's project management framework and methodology.
* Manage relationships with state and federal departments, ensuring alignment with local transportation matters and maximising opportunities for grant funding.
* Collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders to ensure effective project planning, design and delivery.
Requirements
* Proven leadership experience, with the ability to inspire, mentor and drive a high-performing team.
* Demonstrated ability to drive delivery of strategic and operational outcomes, set expectations and measure success.
* Significant experience in engineering and the planning, design and delivery of road and road reserve infrastructure projects.
* Details knowledge and understanding of roads and road reserve infrastructure, and of relevant design standards, legislation and regulatory frameworks.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to research, write reports and plans, and liaise with senior leaders and stakeholders.
* Strong project management skills, with a focus on delivering quality outcomes on time and within budget.
* A collaborative, solutions-focused approach, with a deep understanding of road and transport challenges in growing urban environments.
