Spirit of Tasmania is widely recognised for its provision of a world class passenger and freight service, and its contribution to the Australian tourism industry.

We are looking for a self-motivated person to join our team of Shipwrights where you will be responsible for a variety of general and planned maintenance tasks required as well as overseeing mooring and anchoring requirements when required.

Key Responsibilities include

* Maintain W.T integrity of the vessel

* Greasing of the vessel’s bow and stern doors and ramps, windlasses and other mooring equipment

* Monthly hand sounding of all spaces excluding fuel oil bunker tanks

* Repair and maintenance of all locks throughout ship including ‘Trio Ving’ lock maintenance and service

* Inspection of ballast tank and void winnel vents and report any deficiencies

* Inspection and repair of vehicle deck drencher heads

* Undertake emergency repairs of hotel damage, plumbing and sanitary problems, whilst underway

* Identify and report any defects which may impact on the operational safety of the vessel or safety of persons onboard

* Officer in charge of forward mooring and anchoring operations

* Complete AMOS and Hotel maintenance work

* Contribute to establishing an enduring enterprise through the efficient and effective provision of high quality service

* Undertake training as required and adhere to all occupational health and safety guidelines and company policies

* Maintain high levels of hygiene in the use of tools, equipment and handling processes

* Ensure the safe and appropriate handling and disposal of ‘Bio-Hazards’ at all times

* Emergency Muster duties, as defined in our ISM manual

* Maintain work areas to perform repairs and carry an adequate inventory of spare parts and materials

* Record all work completed

* Supervise shore based Contractors and Integrated Ratings assisting with maintenance work as directed by the Chief Officer

* Perform monthly AMOS duties as issued by the Chief Mate on a monthly routine basis

Requirements

To be considered for this position you must have:

· a Certificate of Proficiency in either Trade of Boatbuilding, Plumbing or Carpentry

· strong skills in carpentry and/or plumbing with previous experience working with sewage systems

· must hold or be able to obtain a Maritime Security Identification Card

· must hold or be able to obtain an AMSA Certificate of Medical Fitness

· must hold or be willing to undertake training to obtain a Certificate of Sea Safety training

· robust problem solving skills

· the ability to work effectively in a team or independently.

Competencies

* A good understanding of plumbing and sewage systems

* Be able to demonstrate having control and management responsibilities associated with projects in the building trade

* Be a good problem solver

* Having specific skills in carpentry and/or plumbing is desirable

* Previous seagoing experience is desirable.
