Overview
The Royal Hobart Hospital is a tertiary hospital in southern Tasmania, serving a population of 300,000. This position is suitable for Basic Physician trainees, GP Registrars and for non‑core terms for Advanced Trainees in Rehabilitation or Emergency Medicine, distinct from the Advanced Trainee in Geriatric Medicine role.
Duties
* The Registrar is responsible for the day‑to‑day management of private & public inpatients/outpatients and provides after‑hours emergency cover at the hospital.
Essential Requirements
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
Position Details
* Salary: $138,978 – $194,675 per annum (in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025).
* Classification: Medical Practitioner Level 5‑11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar).
* Award: Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
* Period of Employment: Fixed term, full‑time day work, working 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time per fortnight, pro rata), commencing from 1 February 2027 until 7 February 2028.
* Location: Various – Peacock 3 / Peacock 1 / Older persons Unit.
Eligibility Checks
* Conviction checks in the following areas: crimes of violence, sex related offences, serious drug offences, crimes involving dishonesty.
* Identification check.
* Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
