Join Australian Wildlife Conservancy as an Ecology and Conservation Intern to gain hands-on experience in wildlife conservation across diverse Australian ecosystems.
Your Role
Key responsibilities include:
Measuring and evaluating ecological health of wildlife sanctuaries and partnership sites
Conducting research on conservation-relevant issues
Planning, implementing, and monitoring species reintroductions
Contributing to conservation and land management strategies and reporting outcomes
Assisting with communication and fundraising activities, including supporter events, media, and webinars
Participating in a structured training program covering various field techniques such as survey and trapping, animal handling, pit tag insertion, DNA sampling, animal husbandry, and radio/GPS tracking
Working under mentorship from experienced ecologists with ongoing assessment and final evaluation
About You
The company is looking for candidates with:
Strong commitment to wildlife conservation
Fauna and flora survey experience
Ability to live and work in remote areas, including extended camping periods with small groups
Capacity to diligently collect and manage data
Understanding of and ability to learn identification of Australian flora and fauna
Physical fitness to undertake strenuous fieldwork, including extended night hours
Preparedness to follow OHS and animal ethics procedures
Fluency in English
Bachelor's degree with Honours (or equivalent experience) in ecology/conservation (e.g., BSc Hons)
Valid manual Australian or internationally recognised driver's licence with manual driving experience
Right to work in Australia (citizen, permanent resident, or suitable visa); sponsorship not available
