e you a strategic property leader passionate about turning network strategy into commercial growth? Metcash is looking for a Head of Property Development to lead the design and execution of a national property strategy that supports the sustainable growth of our Food division.
In
this high-impact, leadership role, you'll be responsible for translating business objectives into a forward-thinking network development plan—covering new sites, refurbishments, relocations, and competitive defence. Partnering with senior leaders across Property, Finance, and Operations, you'll ensure alignment with customer demand, brand strategy, and future market opportunities. a- d the development and execution of a national property and network strategy aligned to the Food Pillar's commercial objectives.
Ow
n- and evolve the 3–5 year network plan including store openings, closures, relocations, and refurbishments.
U
s- e demographic, geospatial, and competitor data to identify growth opportunities and inform property decisions.
Ov
e- rsee the performance of the existing portfolio, identifying optimisation opportunities and market risks.
Se
t- and uphold clear investment criteria, site selection governance, and capital evaluation standards.
Le
a- d the competitor defence strategy through land banking, site intelligence, and lease management.
Co
l- laborate with internal partners (Store Development, Group Property, State Operations) to ensure pipeline readiness and project execution.
Re
p- resent the Food division in enterprise-wide network and strategy forums.
De
l- iver insights, forecasts, and scenario models that influence executive-level decisions.

a- intain a national view of property activity and risk across the entire development lifecycle.

're Likely a Match If

u- have 10+ years' experience in property development, network planning, or retail expansion.
Yo
u- bring a deep understanding of customer-driven retail property strategy.
Yo
u- can translate business strategy into network plans grounded in analytics and commercial acumen.

u- 're skilled in geospatial analysis, forecasting, and scenario planning tools.

o- u've led high-performing teams across regions and functions.
Yo
u- 're commercially minded, with a strong grasp of property economics, ROI metrics, and capital efficiency.
Yo
u- 're highly collaborative, influencing senior stakeholders with clarity and data-led storytelling.
Yo
u- have tertiary qualifications in Property, Commerce, Strategy, or a related discipline.
Ex
p- erience in partner-led or franchise environments is a plus.
