Family and Community Coordinator

SiS Tasmania (SiS) is a dedicated Family Violence Prevention Legal Service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Tasmania. It is supported by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service (TALS).

SiS addresses the legal needs and facilitates non-legal wrap around support for victim/ survivors of family, domestic, and sexual violence. We seek to empower our clients by providing choice and voice, with self-determination being central to how we design and deliver our service and engage with clients, and communities.

We are seeking Family and Community Coordinator to join our team in Hobart with an understanding of trauma, and excellent people and communication skills.

The Role

The purpose of this role is to work directly with clients of SiS to ensure their interactions with our service are client-centred and their needs are met and advocated for. Working with legal and non-legal team members, the Family and Community Coordinator will ensure our client experience supports the best possible outcome for their matters.

The Family and Community Coordinator will ensure clients have access to culturally safe and considered supports to navigate the various legal and social challenges they face.

The scope of this roles includes holding a case load, working with external partners and stakeholders, representing SiS in a variety of meetings, and delivering education sessions to various community groups.

What we are looking for

* Experience or capacity to work sensitively with family violence and/or sexual assault victim/survivors, particularly within Aboriginal communities, using trauma-informed and culturally appropriate approaches.
* Good written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports, keep accurate records, submissions, and other relevant documents.
* Good interpersonal skills, with an aptness to engage widely and collaboratively and an ability to easily build rapport and trust with clients and other stakeholders.
* The capacity to work in a multiskilled, high pressure, client-focused environment; and the ability to apply a strengths-based perspective, flexible, non-judgmental approach to service delivery and challenges that clients may present with.
* Excellent time management and computer skills, navigating various systems, and reporting requirements.
* Demonstrated ability to show initiative, resourcefulness, and personal resilience.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member in a challenging and confidential environment.

What you'll do in the role

* Coordinates and provide specialised family and/or sexual violence case management, including in coordination with SiS lawyers.
* Support clients by providing referrals to organisations outside of SIS to ensure individualised, holistic assistance is provided to clients (this may include income assistance, housing, mental health support, health, drug and alcohol counselling or other support).
* Deliver services in a client-centred and culturally considered manner.
* Attend client appointments and court to provide family violence and sexual violence specialised supports to SIS clients and lawyers during appearances, hearings, alternative dispute resolution, and trials.
* Create and maintain relationships with other Aboriginal organisations and agencies to promote SiS, and also identify support options and programs which may assist clients to build stronger lives and families.
* Liaise with other professionals in the field and work with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure delivery of a culturally relevant service to holistically address client needs;
* Undertake specialised family/sexual violence early intervention and prevention community activities and group work based on community and client needs.
* Contribute to the design and delivery of community education campaigns and activities.
* Perform a range of administrative tasks to ensure the effective delivery of the SiS service to clients.
* Represent SiS and provide technical input at various meetings and report back on those meetings to the SiS team.
* Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Requirements

* Experience in a related field,
* Provision of a satisfactory national police check.
* A current registration to work with vulnerable people.
* Ability to travel occasionally travel across Tasmania.
