Wild Desert is a family-owned business and one of Australia’s leading providers of well servicing rigs, transport operations and mobile camps for the oil and gas industry. With a growing workforce, we are expanding our team and seeking a Payroll Officer to join us in Roma.
The Role
The Payroll Officer will work as part of a team to deliver end-to-end payroll for a workforce of 450+ employees across multiple payrolls and pay cycles. The focus is on accuracy, compliance, and timely processing. This role suits someone who is innovative, enjoys detailed tasks, system work, and supporting a large team to reach their goals. Key Responsibilities
- Process end-to-end payroll each fortnight.
- Work with HR Manager and Business Operations Officers to finalise timesheets in line with rosters.
- Manage payroll administration and employee lifecycle activities (onboarding, terminations, leave, pay changes).
- Maintain payroll records and systems.
- Ensure compliance with Superannuation, STP, Payroll Tax, Workers Compensation, Child Support, Paid Parental Leave, reimbursements, and entitlements.
- Complete payroll reconciliations, monthly reporting, and assist with BAS and TAX.
- Respond promptly to payroll queries.
- Finalise month and year-end close.
- Identify and support payroll process improvements, work with team on HR systems development.
- Liaise with external advisors as required.
- Assist HR Team in general administration tasks.
Skills and Experience
- 2+ years’ payroll or similar experience.
- Strong knowledge of payroll processes, awards, and legislation.
- Certificate IV in Payroll or higher (desirable).
- Experience with Xero and Employment Hero (desirable).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication and confidentiality.
