Austin Engineering in Perth are looking for a qualified and experienced Quality Leader with the ability to implement systems and manage a small team on a national level.
You will have the responsibility for ensuring a high level of quality in all aspects of production within our workshop's as well as the efficient management of the Austin Engineering Integrated Management System and processes. This role also requires you to implement a functional and compliant national records system for the business.
This role is based in our Kewdale WA facility, with regular travels to QLD and reporting directly to the Deputy General Manager of Australia – Production.

About the role
* Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards such as AS1554.1 - 5, ISO 9001, 9606, 3001 and client specifications
* Lead and coordinate third-party inspections, client audits, and certifications
* Ensure proper documentation control for quality records, traceability, material test reports (MTRs), and welding logs.
* Develop and implement a nationwide quality strategy focused on heavy fabrication standards and regulatory compliance.
* Standardise welding procedures, inspection protocols, and non‑destructive testing (NDT) practices across all facilities in Australia.
* Lead and develop quality manager, inspectors, and weld quality personnel.
* Oversee quality at each stage: incoming material inspection, fit-up, welding, dimensional checks, coatings, final inspections.
* Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for weld defects, NDT failures, and dimensional deviations.
* Implement Lean, Six Sigma, or other structured methodologies to reduce rework, scrap, and cost of quality.
* Conduct internal audits and quality training programs tailored to meet business needs.
* Define and track key fabrication quality metrics: weld rejection rates, NDT pass/fail rates, dimensional compliance, rework rates.
* Report quality trends and status to executive leadership, and use data to drive continuous improvement.
* Establish quality benchmarks across sites and share best practices to elevate performance.
About you
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Tertiary Welding/Fabrications Qualification and/or Diploma Quality Management / Auditing with additional advanced certification such as Six Sigma, essential
* Must have Weld Australia Welding Supervisor AS1796 No.10 or higher
* Must have CSWIP Inspectors Certificate (3.1, 3.2) and/or WTIA IWI Certificate
* Sound working knowledge and experience of the Australian Standards, in particular AS/NZS1554 Part 1 to Part 5 with the ability to inspect all welding processes
* Extensive understanding of ISO 9001, 9606 and 3001
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a QA/QC inspection/supervision role within heavy steel fabrication/engineering of mining and OEM equipment and working within the heavy steel manufacturing industry
* Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain a record system of relevant Australian Standards, Weld Australia paper and other relevant specification for auditing and quality improvement purpose
* Demonstrate the ability to drive root cause analysis and corrective actions & solutions for weld defects, NDT failures and dimensional deviations to increase quality and production
* Experience in mentoring and leading a team, taking accountability for decisions making processes
* Demonstrate positive relationship building across various stake holders at all levels
