About the Role
Gippsland Southern Health Services seeks applications for an Alcohol and Drug Counsellor with clinical skills and experience and/or knowledge of the alcohol and drug field. As an Alcohol and Drug Counsellor you will be providing evidence based alcohol and drug counselling services to people in hospital and in the community.
This position is part time and 0.6 EFT. limited tenure backfill from 10th November 2025 to 23rd January 2026.
About You
The successful applicant will possess the following:
- Appropriate Degree in Social Work or related Discipline such as Psychology, Addiction studies or Social Welfare.
- AOD skillset or willingness to obtain within the first 12 months of employment.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high quality drug and alcohol comprehensive assessments and care plans which are client and family inclusive.
- Current drivers’ licence, police check and WWCC.
- Evidence based counselling experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of family violence and its impacts on victim survivors along with an understanding of MARAM and the Victorian family violence system.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written including ability to provide information, court reports, detailed case notes, staff reports and daily data collection.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to provide high quality comprehensive AOD assessments and consequent development of Care and Recovery plans which are client and family inclusive.
- Have completed or are willing to complete AOD core competencies.
Staff have access to supportive staff mentoring, education and development programs. Salary Packaging is available for all staff. The successful applicant will be required to provide a current satisfactory police check and Working With Children Check.
