We currently have a great opportunity for a senior lawyer to join one of our favourite clients on secondment.
Working in a high performing and collegiate team led by one of Australia's very best GCs, you will work with various businesses in a diverse corporate group, advising on a wide range of areas impacting the group's operations.
Your role will be to deliver timely, relevant, and commercial legal advice and services to support the organisation's goals, manage legal risks and educate the wider team on their legal obligations.
Key responsibilities
* Provide legal support to various business units and corporate functions including advising on compliance matters and the applicability of various laws
* Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements
* Review material issued by group entities to ensure that exposure to legal liabilities or claims is mitigated and minimised
* Identify, elevate and provide advice on significant legal risks
* Advise on and assist with investigations, incidents and litigation, including dealing with subpoenas, advising on customer complaints, and assisting with complaints from regulators
* Use external legal providers in a way that ensures commercial, targeted and cost-effective advice, and monitor their work appropriately
* Develop or assist with developing training programmes on issues within Group Legal & Governance's remit
* Develop or assist with developing policies and procedures within Group Legal & Governance's remit
* Support other members of Group Legal in prioritising work flow from across the Group and providing an overall service across the business
* Help build the capacity of non-legal staff to identify and raise legal risks and issues and to comply with Group policies and procedures
* Be the primary point of contact for certain business units and Corporate functions, as directed from time to time
* Help manage external legal provider costs to budget by assisting the supervising lawyer in monitoring usage and servicing levels, and identify opportunities to optimise external legal spend
About You
We are looking for a 'good egg'. If you are not a good egg, or worse still, you're a bad apple, don't read any further.
* Tertiary qualification of LLB or equivalent
* Admitted as a solicitor in one or more states in Australia and holding a current practising certificate (restricted or unrestricted)
* At least 5 years' experience as a corporate/ commercial solicitor with a top tier or mid-tier law firm and in-house experience
* High level of attention to detail
* A team player
* Strong analytical skills
* Excellent drafting and negotiating skills
* Commercial acumen
* Sound verbal and written communication skills and a proven ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
* Organised and able to effectively manage competing priorities
* Proactive and self-motivated
