Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue's Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.
Roster: 8D/6R - FIFO ex Perth
This is a 12 month fixed term contract opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Trainer and Assessor for a 12-month contract opportunity to join our team and play a key role in delivering high-quality, practical training and assessments across our site operations.
This position is critical in supporting workforce capability by delivering face-to-face training, including Verification of Competency (VOC) assessments for both mobile equipment and fixed plant operations.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive hands-on experience in heavy equipment or fixed plant operations, along with a strong understanding of industry safety standards and RTO compliance. With a proactive approach to continuous improvement, you will coordinate and enhance site-specific training programs, develop and maintain compliant training resources, and contribute to a culture of safety and professional development across the site.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver practical, face-to-face training and assessments, including Verification of Competency (VOC) for both mobile equipment and fixed plant operations
* Coordinate, implement, and continuously improve site-specific training to align with operational requirements and regulatory standards
* Develop, validate, and moderate Training and Assessment Strategies (TAS), learning resources, and assessment tools to ensure quality and compliance with RTO standards
* Regularly review and update assessments, documents and procedures to reflect current best practices as well as operational changes
* Conduct internal audits and safety inspections related to training and competency assurance, contributing to continuous improvement in safety and performance
* Provide coaching and mentoring to developing operators and new employees, fostering a culture of safety, development, and competency across site operations
* Collaborate with operational and safety teams to identify training needs and address skill gaps proactively.

Qualifications And Experience
* Minimum of 5 years' experience operating heavy equipment, specifically Dozers and Excavators, within a mining or similar high-risk environment and/or
* Proven background in fixed plant operations, with a strong focus on industry-relevant competencies and safety protocols (highly desirable)
* Hold a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40120 or equivalent) or willing to work towards
* Experience working within a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or involvement with RTO processes, including compliance, validation, and assessment practices (highly desirable)
* Experience working with Magnetite or other Grade-A product (high desirable)
