About the Role:
The School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry is seeking a Teaching Focussed ALB Lecturer to become part of the Creative Writing major team within the Writing Discipline. The Lecturer is expected to make a significant contribution to administrative functions and program development of the Area, and in particular play a major role in teaching, scholarly research and professional activities relevant to the Creative Writing discipline.
The Lecturer will work as part of the creative writing major in the development and delivery of teaching programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Lecturer is expected to develop and maintain effective relationships with academic, industry, creative and professional communities.
The applicant will be experienced in the provision of effective leadership in a tertiary education setting and will demonstrate the ability to play a leadership role in the undergraduate and postgraduate Creative Writing program, and in the development of a teaching culture of practice, and high-quality research within the School.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Conduct learning activities online, distributed or face-to-face as appropriate, whichstimulate and foster student learning.
* Innovative curriculum design and development of learning materials in collaboration
* with other colleagues as appropriate.
* Determine the learning needs of students and provide appropriate teaching and learning support to demonstrate the intended learning outcomes.
* Assess and provide feedback on learning to students
* Supervise the program of study of honours students or postgraduate students engaged in coursework and HDR students, as appropriate.
* Keep abreast of current discipline theory and practice and apply these in teaching and learning.
* Contribute to and undertake professional development including peer review in higher education teaching and maintain currency in discipline theory and practice.
* Contribute to curriculum innovation and design to develop students learning
* Undertake a range of administrative functions connected with the subjects taught, including moderation and assessment of student work.
* Plan learning activities, units and/or courses that reflect a command of the field and is founded on research-based pedagogical practices.
* Provide support to the course team in the development of curricula and resources
Who we are looking for/Selection Criteria:
1. Qualification - PhD in Creative Writing or equivalent
2. Demonstrated creative writing publications history and potential for significant future publication of creative works.
3. Demonstrated record of scholarship in the area of Creative Writing, or in the area of teaching and student learning to improve educational practice (SoTL.)
4. Demonstrated Capacity to Supervise at Honours and Postgraduate Levels
5. Demonstrated capacity in the development of innovative curriculum.
6. Demonstrated ability to work across areas of creative writing specialisation, with particular skills in one or more areas of short fiction, writing for younger audiences, queer writing, long fiction or literary fiction and in flexible delivery modes, including online.
7. Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal and organisational skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
Desirable:
* Demonstrated engagement with Western Australian cultures of literary production and connections with local creative writing organisations and stakeholders.
* Demonstrated track record of research and/orcreative practice leadership and success in obtaining research and/or creative practice funding.
* Industry experience, at a local, national and international level in a field relevant to the creative writing sector.
* Demonstrated ability to contribute to wider School, Faculty and University strategic imperatives.
* Demonstrated capacity to mentor junior staff.
