Primary objective
Provide effective leadership and resource management in the development, implementation and evaluation of high quality and culturally
appropriate urgent community aged care paramedic services, ensuring that professional standards are maintained at the highest possible level.
Context statement
This role will lead implementation of an urgent community aged care paramedicine model of care designed to strengthen the interface between
community, primary care and hospital services by providing timely, proactive care to older people, reducing avoidable hospital use and supporting
care closer to home. The applicant may be required to work within an extended hours service model, which may include weekends.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide effective leadership and resource management in the development, implementation and evaluation of high quality and culturally

appropriate urgent community aged care paramedic services delivered in a range of external and internal environments and settings.
2. Provide professional supervision, clinical advice and support to all team members to ensure that the needs of clients are met in a strategic,

culturally appropriate, effective and efficient manner, ensuring evidence-based practice is utilised and implemented.
3. Establish regular and effective communication, monitor service demands and coordinate team strategies and service delivery models to

effectively achieve program policy directions, standards and outcomes within an urgent community aged care paramedicine context.
4. Recognise the limits of own expertise and seek multidisciplinary advice to ensure safe patient care is delivered and safe transitions of care are

practiced
5. Provide senior level advice to the PPHC Senior Manager Community Allied Health and Aged Care, PPHC Director of Nursing, PPHC Director

Medical Services, and Executive Director PPHC on issues impacting on the client group.
6. Determine optimum strategies for improved urgent community aged care paramedicine service provision in line with relevant legislation, policy

and service standards to maximise the functional outcomes of clients including developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships,
networks and alliances with interstate, intrastate and non-government agencies to further enhance policy directions, standards and outcomes

7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to
ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualification, or equivalent, in Paramedicine and current, unrestricted Paramedic registration with the Paramedicine Board of Australia.
2. A minimum of 3 years active experience as a paramedic in a high-volume acute care setting and/or rural, remote or military experience with

proven emergency medical exposure to endorse a capability of independent contemporary paramedic practice.
3. Demonstrated awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and proven experience in working effectively with patients and

families/carers of diverse cultural and social backgrounds
4. Demonstrated leadership and management experience of an urgent care paramedic team with proven skills and knowledge of financial

management, human resource management, change management, strategic planning and organisational skills in the workplace.
5. High level knowledge of contemporary practice and issues associated with provision of best practice urgent care paramedic services for clients

residing in urban, rural and remote settings, including a working knowledge of relevant legislation, particularly applicable to the Northern
Territory.

6. Demonstrated experience in program development relating to urgent care paramedic services.
7. Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills, including well developed negotiation and conflict management skills with

significant experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment to achieve positive health outcomes.
8. Demonstrated high level analytical, research, problem-solving and risk management skills.
Desirable
1. Possess or undertaking a relevant postgraduate qualification in Primary Health Care, Community/Urgent Care Paramedicine or similar.
2. Demonstrated background in teaching, mentoring, networking and capacity building
3. Possess or undertaking a Certificate IV Training and Assessment.

The preferred or recommended applicant will be required to hold a current working with children clearance notice and undergo a criminal history
check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is relevant to the position. This role carries specific immunisation
requirements - Category A (direct contact with blood or body substances. Whilst this position is advertised as a fixed (temporary) full time contract,
alternative contractual arrangements including flexible working hours or a casual locum contract will be considered.
