The Company

A well‐established and rapidly growing non‐for‐profit organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Assistant Accountant to join their finance team on an initial 3–4 month contract, with the potential for the role to become permanent. Based in Melbourne's inner‐eastern suburbs, this organisation offers a fantastic working environment, strong leadership and a collaborative culture. The office is easily accessible via public transport and parking is available both on‐site and on surrounding streets. This is a busy and varied position within a small, high‐performing finance team where you will play an important role supporting the day‐to‐day running of the finance function.

The Role

Working closely with the Accountant and wider finance team, responsibilities will include:

* Processing fortnightly payroll for approximately 150 employees
* Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
* Preparation and posting of journals, including payroll journals
* Supporting month‐end reporting alongside the Accountant
* Assisting with compliance reporting including FBT and superannuation
* Maintaining depreciation schedules and fixed asset records
* Supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as required
* Assisting with finance reporting and administrative tasks within the team

This role will initially require 5 days on‐site during the training period, before transitioning to a hybrid working arrangement.

Candidate Profile

To be considered for this opportunity you will likely have previously worked as a:

* Senior Assistant Accountant
* Senior Bookkeeper
* Accountant

You will also demonstrate:

* Strong end‐to‐end payroll experience, ideally processing payroll for 150+ employees
* Solid reconciliation experience across bank and general ledger accounts
* Experience supporting month‐end processes
* Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting/payroll systems
* High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
* Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach

Experience working within the non‐for‐profit sector will be highly regarded, though it is not essential.
