Senior Technical Officer – Chemical Residues in Exported Animal Products

We are seeking a skilled and motivated technical professional to support chemical residue risk management in Australian animal products destined for export markets. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to food safety, international trade, and scientific policy in a highly collaborative environment.
The Role
In this position, you will:
- Provide expert technical advice on chemical residues in exported animal products
- Assess and interpret scientific data to support export market access and compliance
- Monitor changes in international residue standards and regulatory requirements
- Contribute to policy submissions and risk assessments to support Australia's export interests
- Maintain online databases of importing country requirements related to residue standards
- Prepare briefings, technical correspondence, and reports
- Collaborate with stakeholders to manage chemical residue risks
- Support training and may assist with laboratory audits and internal knowledge sharing
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone with:
- A strong foundation in analytical chemistry, especially involving pesticides, veterinary medicines, or environmental contaminants in food
- Experience in designing and implementing scientific programs or assessments
- The ability to assess complex scientific information and provide sound, evidence-based recommendations
- Excellent written communication skills for scientific reporting and stakeholder engagement
- Strong analytical thinking, time management, and independent work capability
- Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
Required Qualifications
You must hold a tertiary qualification in chemistry, agricultural science, animal science, or a related biological discipline. Postgraduate qualifications in these areas are highly desirable.
