Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a MACSYS Post-doctoral Research Fellows (applied mathematics, applied statistics, computer science) (4 positions available) to join School of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, Academic Division.
MACSYS is intended to generate the mathematics and computational technologies required to make biology predictive; establish mathematical whole cell models for in silico biology as a powerful complement to traditional in vivo and in vitro approaches; tackle fundamental biological problems; and establish a world-leading research and biotechnology translation environment.The QUT node is headed by Professor Matthew Simpson, Deputy Director MACSYS with QUT Chief Investigators Professor Chris Drovandi and Professor Richi Nyak. The four 36-month, fixed-term, full-time appointments will contribute to the success of QUT MACSYS node’s research program success.

What you need to succeed
1. Completion of a doctoral qualification in applied mathematics, applied statistics, computer science or similar discipline.
2. Demonstrated experience mathematical modelling, statistical modelling, and text mining as appropriate.
3. Strong programming skills, preferably in languages (e.g. Python, MATLAB, or Julia).
4. Experience with biological data analysis and interpretation is preferrable, but not necessary.
5. Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers from biological sciences is preferable, but not necessary.
6. Demonstrated academic research experience evidenced by publications in high quality research journals and conferences.
7. Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills, including presenting findings to academically diverse audiences.
8. Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to collaborate with colleagues in a team environment, internal and external stakeholders, and the wider research community.
9. Potential or demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree students effectively.
