About the Team

The Operations team works with diverse customers to support several nationally significant supply chains. Managing operations across five states, our 8,500 km rail network transports bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a wide array of consumer items for both import and export markets. We operate in some of the busiest rail corridors, delivering safe, efficient and sustainable service outcomes for customers, stakeholders and the community.

About the Opportunity

Lead and develop a capable team to manage the safe and reliable operation of rail infrastructure in the Central North West region. Deliver the annual asset‑maintenance plan on time and within budget, ensuring customer needs are met across sites in Dubbo, Binnaway and Narrabri.

- Accountable for the safe and reliable condition of the rail network infrastructure.
- Ensure infrastructure remains fit for purpose to achieve ARTC outcomes and operational goals.
- Respond to the needs of an operating rail network on a 24‑hour, 7‑day basis.
- Attend to emergencies promptly and return equipment safely to service.
- Manage work programs to minimise disruption to rail operations.
- Optimise infrastructure performance and availability, driving continuous improvement.
- Execute the annual maintenance program across signal and civil disciplines within budget and timeframe.
- Manage the operating budget, including labour, plant, inventory, contractors and materials.
- Review budget, work and asset condition outcomes from annual work and capital improvement plans.
- Manage external contractor performance and productivity.
- Lead, develop, coach and performance‑manage a team of employees to achieve business objectives.
- Promote a safety culture in line with WHS and Rail Safety legislation.
- Apply ARTC values continuously and visibly.
- Report injuries properly and ensure safe, timely return to work.
- Apply human resource and WHS procedures in line with Just and Fair Culture.
- Ensure compliance with ARTC commercial, procurement, contracts, policies and procedures.
- Maintain leadership and managerial operations disciplines to monitor performance against key performance indicators.
- Ensure fair and equitable workplace practices, creating a discrimination‑free workplace in accordance with legislative requirements.

What do we want from you?

- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, asset management systems or an appropriate discipline and/or relevant industry experience.
- Proven management experience of a large workforce at a senior level, preferably in rail, mining, logistics, heavy industry or similar.
- Knowledge of contemporary management.
- Experience in an operational or maintenance environment with management experience.
- Experience managing safety.
- Highly developed negotiation, influencing, analytical, problem‑resolution, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to lead change process and motivate staff.
- Demonstrated cost, budget and project management experience.
- Driver’s licence – Class C.
