Your new role:
* This role is based in Coastal NSW and would therefore require a phased relocation which is supported.
* Lead engineering teams through all phases of ship design and build, from requirements to final acceptance.
* Define and communicate a clear engineering vision aligned with strategic goals; foster a culture of excellence and innovation.
* Oversee Engineering Support staff to ensure timely, accurate design outputs and reporting for project and business needs.
* Drive process improvements and cost-effective engineering solutions without compromising quality or performance.
* Manage the review, approval, and release of design documentation related to configuration, data, and technical outputs.
* Champion workplace standards in quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.
* Support business development initiatives to enable ongoing growth.
About you:
To be considered for this position, you will have:
* Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
* Minimum 10 years' experience that includes leading teams in an engineering environment (within defence, maritime, shipbuilding enviornment).
* Strong knowledge of marine engineering principles, systems, and industry standards
* Proven leadership with technical, commercial, and interpersonal strengths
* Skilled in reviewing technical documents, manuals, and drawings using standard tools
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in dynamic environments
* Experience building team capability and systems in a growing organisation
Desirable:
* Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status
* Experience in Defence maritime engineering leadership roles
* In-depth understanding of maritime regulations, naval architecture, and design engineering
* Familiarity with defence programs, government acquisition processes, and project delivery
* Experience with military and government documentation standards
* Demonstrated leadership in complex or uncertain operational settings
