Wangaratta, VIC | Permanent Full-Time | $70,017 per annum + super | 9-day fortnight
Are you ready to take charge and make a lasting impact on the roads that connect our community? The Rural City of Wangaratta is seeking a proactive and experienced Team Leader – Unsealed Roads to join our Field Services team.
In this pivotal role, you'll lead a dedicated crew responsible for maintaining and constructing our unsealed road network, as well as supporting bridge maintenance and drainage works across the municipality. It's a hands-on leadership opportunity where your expertise will directly shape the safety, accessibility, and quality of our regional infrastructure.
What You'll Be Doing
* Lead and supervise road maintenance and construction teams, ensuring compliance with the Road Management Plan and safety standards
* Operate a range of plant and machinery including graders, rollers, backhoes, excavators, and chainsaws
* Champion safety by completing SWMS, conducting site inductions, and managing traffic control
* Maintain accurate records of labour, equipment use, and work performed
* Collaborate with other Council teams and assist across departments as needed
About You
We're looking for a confident leader with:
* Proven experience in civil construction or road maintenance, especially unsealed roads
* Strong leadership and team coordination skills
* Competency in operating plant and machinery (grader, roller, backhoe, excavator, etc.)
* Sound understanding of OH&S and environmental regulations
* Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
* A current driver's licence (HR or higher preferred)
* Relevant tickets and qualifications such as Traffic Management and First Aid (highly desirable)
