**Position Information**:
Muirfield High School (875 students, including 24% from non-English speaking background) is a comprehensive, coeducational school with highly supportive student welfare structures and respectful relationships. The school has dynamic and enthusiastic staff members who provide outstanding academic and extracurricular programs. An informed and highly committed community has high expectations for student achievement. With a broad curriculum, there is a robust proactive focus for collegial professional learning on quality teaching which engages and challenges all students. The school has an emotional disturbance support with three classes with students from 7 to 12. Students in the support unit may be integrated into mainstream classes, depending on individual needs and plans.
**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Approval to teach science (7-10), chemistry and biology with a willingness to teach physics.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead the development and implementation of innovative, high-quality teaching and learning programs which cater for the diverse needs of students
- A visible leader with the capacity to work collaboratively as part of the school executive team to drive quality, evidence based teaching initiatives related to the school's strategic plan.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and build the capacity of teachers, with a diverse range of skills and experiences that have an impact on student improvement.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
