APO has been contracted by North Queensland Export Terminal Pty Ltd to manage operations of it's coal export terminal at the Port of Abbot Point—Australia's northernmost coal port—located 25 kilometres north of Bowen, between Townsville and Mackay, serving as the gateway to the Whitsundays.
Due to internal progression, Abbot Point Operations has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team on a 24 month maximum term basis. As a key member of our Engineering and Asset Management Team, you will be responsible for the analysis and improvement of the mechanical reliability of fixed plant assets, ensuring they meet operational requirements at the Abbot Point Terminal.
As the Mechanical Engineer you will be instrumental in identifying and implementing initiatives that drive the efficient operation of site assets from a mechanical perspective. You will provide valuable insights to improve asset reliability, ensuring alignment with business objectives. Additionally, you will assist the Engineering and Asset Management Superintendent in managing APO's relationships with key stakeholders.
What You'll Do:
• Perform quality control and production monitoring activities; of preventive, routine and breakdown maintenance, ensuring equipment and systems are kept in good working order throughout their life-cycle.
• Install new systems and equipment in accordance with relevant requirements.
• Perform calculations, carry out measurements, analyse data, determine the technical specifications of mechanical components, machinery and systems, conduct tests and simulations and perform production quality control activities.
• Apply a deeper understanding of Engineering principles to devise and deliver new approaches in order to solve more complex problems.
• Risk identification and mitigation.
• Produce and maintain high quality product design documentation.
• Deliver maintenance KPIs for the business, monitor and report on performance in conjunction with key stakeholders and collaborate with departments across the business (e.g., Production, Maintenance, Logistics, Projects).
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of structural assessments, inspections, and maintenance activities.
• Maintain compliance with relevant Australian and APO standards.
• Contribute to an inclusive team culture.
What We're Looking For:
• Tertiary degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Demonstrated ability of interpreting regulatory standards, and test procedures.
• Strong problem-solving capability and use of recognised methodologies.
• Excellent technical report writing / presentation skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with strong ability to engage, influence and liaise confidently on all levels
• Strong technical background in structural engineering, with experience in asset integrity management
• Knowledge of Australian Standards and relevant regulatory frameworks
