Lead Software Engineer (Systems Integration & DevSecOps)

Responsibilities
We're seeking a Lead Software Engineer (Systems Integration & DevSecOps) to play a key role in delivering the AIR6500 integration program, one of Australia's most advanced Defence capabilities.
This is a senior, hands‐on role where you will own integration outcomes across a complex system‐of‐systems environment. You'll lead the design, setup and optimisation of integration environments, bringing together software, infrastructure and mission systems to ensure seamless end‐to‐end performance.
Working at the intersection of systems engineering, software integration and DevSecOps, you will shape how integration is executed across the program by driving CI/CD, improving automation, and influencing technical direction while mentoring engineers and uplifting team capability.
* Own and drive integration outcomes across complex, multi‐domain systems from planning through to execution
* Lead defect analysis and root cause resolution across system, subsystem and component levels
* Design, implement and optimise CI/CD pipelines, automation and integration environments
* Lead the development and execution of system integration thread tests, including automation strategies
* Oversee the set‐to‐work, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of integration environments (hardware, software, IaC, scripts and test artefacts)
* Lead and contribute to test events, showcases and agile planning activities
* Mentor and guide engineers while setting technical direction for integration activities
* Collaborate across multi‐site and international teams to ensure alignment and delivery
Qualifications
You're an experienced software engineer with deep expertise in systems integration, and you thrive in complex, mission‐critical environments. You enjoy solving challenging technical problems, owning outcomes, and influencing how systems are integrated, tested and delivered at scale.
* Extensive experience in Systems Integration, Test & Evaluation within complex environments
* Strong capability in defect analysis, troubleshooting and system‐level problem solving
* Deep experience with Linux, networking, scripting and ICT environments
* Proven experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps practices and automation
* Hands‐on experience with virtualisation, containerisation and Infrastructure as Code (e.g. VMware, Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, Terraform)
* Experience establishing and maintaining integration or production environments
* Strong understanding of configuration management, safety and quality in I&T environments
* Demonstrated ability to lead activities, mentor others and drive outcomes across multidisciplinary teams
* An active NV‐1 security clearance and ability to handle Export Controlled information
