About the Role
As the Workshop Manager, you will oversee the entire workshop's daily operations while ensuring high-quality workmanship and customer satisfaction. You will also perform mechanical duties when required, supporting workflow and maintaining productivity.
This position combines management, customer interaction, mechanical hands-on capability, and business oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Management & Operations
* Manage day-to-day workshop activities and ensure efficient workflow
* Assign jobs to mechanics, apprentices, and detailers
* Coordinate booking schedules, job cards, and invoicing
* Ensure all repairs and services meet Midas quality standards
* Maintain workshop WHS requirements and safe working practices
* Monitor workshop KPI performance and revenue targets
* Maintain accuracy in administrative and operational tasks
Mechanical Repairs & Diagnostics (as needed)
* Carry out general mechanical repairs, diagnostics, and maintenance
* Conduct logbook servicing, inspections, and troubleshooting
* Assist mechanics with complex jobs when required
* Deliver high-quality workmanship and attention to detail
Customer Service & Client Management
* Communicate clearly with customers regarding repairs and recommendations
* Prepare accurate quotes and explain mechanical issues in simple terms
* Provide honest, reliable advice and build strong customer trust
* Handle complaints professionally and maintain strong customer relationships
Parts, Inventory & Supplier Management
* Order automotive parts and manage stock efficiently
* Liaise with suppliers for pricing, delivery, and warranty claims
* Track inventory and ensure parts availability
Team Leadership & Staff Support
* Lead, supervise, and motivate workshop staff
* Provide training, mentoring, and performance feedback
* Maintain a strong team culture and ensure high service standards
About You – Skills & Experience
Required
* Minimum 10+ years experience in the automotive industry
* Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
* Qualified Light Vehicle Mechanic (Certificate III or equivalent)
* Strong diagnostic and mechanical repair skills
* Experience in workshop management or senior technician role
* Excellent leadership and people management skills
* Exceptional communication and customer service skills
* Ability to multitask, prioritise and manage pressure
* Valid Australian driver's licence
Preferred
* Experience in a branded/franchise workshop (Midas, Auto Master, MyCar, Ultratune, etc.)
* Familiarity with workshop software and booking systems
* Strong understanding of KPI-driven performance and targets
