Microsoft Hybrid Identity Engineer (2-Year Contract | Local Council)
We're looking for a Microsoft-focused Infrastructure Engineer to lead a major modernisation program for a local council. This is a hands‑on, project‑driven role where you'll upgrade ageing on‑prem systems and move the environment toward a secure, cloud‑ready Microsoft hybrid setup.
You'll take ownership of identity modernisation (AD/Entra), PKI, DNS/DHCP redesign, HCI migrations, Azure Disaster Recovery, and Azure ARC onboarding, working closely with council teams to deliver staged cutovers and long‑term improvements.
What you'll be working on
* Modernising Active Directory and migrating identity into Azure Entra.
* Cleaning up service accounts and privileged access using modern identity practices.
* Rebuilding DNS/DHCP and improving IP management.
* Designing and deploying a new PKI and certificate automation.
* Migrating servers onto hyperconverged infrastructure (VMware/Nutanix/etc.).
* Setting up Azure‑based Disaster Recovery and testing failover.
* Implementing modern monitoring using Azure Monitor and/or open‑source tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
* Producing runbooks, migration plans, and technical documentation, and leading cutovers.
What they're looking for
* Strong experience with Active Directory + Azure Entra migrations.
* Hands‑on Azure engineering skills (DNS/DHCP, DR, Monitor, ARC).
* Solid knowledge of PKI and certificate lifecycle automation.
* Experience with HCI platforms and server migrations.
* Strong scripting/automation (PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bicep/Terraform).
* Confident working autonomously and leading technical delivery.
Why it's a great opportunity
* High‑impact project work with clear milestones.
* Chance to shape the council's long‑term hybrid infrastructure.
* Broad technical scope — identity, cloud, networking, DR, observability.
* Potential for additional work across the council's digital program.
