About the role
As a Clinical Bioinformatician, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-throughput infectious diseases genetic testing by implementing, maintaining and optimising genome analysis pipelines for diagnostic and public health use. Your work will directly contribute to accurate, timely and clinically meaningful genomic insights that support disease detection, surveillance and patient management.
You will also contribute to the strategic development of the genomics service by providing expert advice on bioinformatics and emerging technologies. Working closely with scientists, clinicians and technical staff, you will help guide innovation, strengthen analytical capability and ensure the service remains at the forefront of pathogen genomics. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled bioinformatician to make a meaningful impact within a dynamic, fast-evolving field.

You are a detail-driven, analytical and scientifically minded professional with a passion for genomics and bioinformatics. With strong communication skills, the ability to work independently or within a multidisciplinary team, and a commitment to accuracy and high-quality analytical work, you bring the expertise needed to support advanced infectious diseases genomic testing and contribute to the ongoing development of diagnostic services.
Educational/Vocational Qualifications
Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science or equivalent, ideally with experience in bioinformatics and genome analysis.
Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences; ability to analyse complex information, work under pressure and meet deadlines; exceptional attention to detail; and the capacity to work independently with limited direction while adhering to WHS and risk-management principles.
Experience
Demonstrated experience in bioinformatics and genome analysis, as well as computer coding, software development and pipeline development for genomic applications.
Knowledge
Sound understanding of genome analysis techniques, next-generation sequencing platforms, human genome biology and the pathology or healthcare environment, including industry services, customers and providers.
