Byron Shire Council is currently seeking an enthusiastic Flood and Drainage Engineer. The position plays a key role in delivering a high level of engineering technical services in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of drainage infrastructure for the Works Team and the Infrastructure Services Directorate. It also coordinates and provides technical support for Floodplain Management functions, including operation of the Council's Flood Warning Network, running Floodplain Management Committees and providing flooding advice to the Sustainable Environment and Economy Directorate.
Some specific tasks include:
* Supporting Utilities staff with preparation and operation of urban drainage maintenance programmes, including preparation of annual drainage system performance reports and assisting Works operations staff with rural drainage maintenance programmes.
* Preparation and operation of urban and rural drainage capital renewal programmes, including preparation of business cases, estimated project costs and expenditure under the Council's Stormwater Levy budget.
* Preparation of comprehensive flood studies, floodplain management studies and floodplain management plans in accordance with the NSW Floodplain Development Manual.
* Coordinating operation and maintenance of the Council's Flood Warning Network and Disaster Dashboard, supporting the Local Emergency Management Officer and SES prior to, during and post disaster operations.
* Developing and undertaking flood awareness and community education related to floodplain management.
* Preparation of specifications, tenders, requests for quotes and contract documents, as required, for the supply of materials or execution of works, analysing tenders and reporting recommendations.
* Ensuring all relevant legislation is complied with, public risk is minimised and due diligence is exercised using a risk‑management approach to deliver drainage maintenance activities and develop programmes of work for capital projects.

Location
This position is based at Mullumbimby; however, the Council can require you to work from other sites as operationally necessary.
